[edit] Description

The Brobdingnag was the first - and last - commercial dropship designed by O'Reilly Design. Although moderately successful in designing exclusive, one-of-a-kind private yachts for the wealthy, O'Reilly Design decided to attempt an ill-advised foray into the commercial market after a dinner party where its CEO was convinced that the Star League Navy desperately needed a huge bulk freighter.

Although rather under-armed for a military transport, the Brobdingnag made up for it with cargo - it would be the largest dropship capable of landing on a planetary surface until the introduction of the Mammoth in 2808.

While it proved to be a reliable and durable design, the Brobdingnag's major flaw became apparent as early as 2700, when engineers at the Federated-Boeing Interstellar plant at Galax began complaining that the design was badly flawed, since any major engine overhaul would require large sections of the hull - including some structural members - to be removed. When the SLDF investigated, they immediately tried to halt production.

However, it quickly became aarent that the CEO, Jason O'Reilly, had an extaordinarily-capable legal team, who had gotten a "guaranteed build" clause slipped into the contract, that was upheld in court. The SLDF was thus forced to take delivery of three hundred vessels which - until they required major maintenance - performed their design function flawlessly.

No Brobdingnag's are known to have survived the First Succession War.
