History[edit]

First Succession War[edit]

Wyatt was annexed by the Free Worlds League early in the First Succession War, but the Marik Militia forces assigned to Wyatt withdrew in late 2790, leaving the planet open to conquest. The League had honored the titles of the Roark family on Wyatt when the world was annexed from the Terran Hegemony, in exchange for the Roark's fealty. That fealty was tested when two Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces regiments – the Fourth Donegal Guards and Fifth Lyran Guards – arrived to annex the planet in January 2791. A Lyran negotiator attempted to persuade Baroness Althea Roark to switch her allegiance to the Lyran Commonwealth, the previous Baron – Althea's husband – having left with the Star League Defense Force on the Exodus, but Althea's son and daughter – former Captain Stephan Roark of the SLDF and his sister, Dana – are opposed to breaking their oaths to House Marik, as is Stephan's uncle, retired SLDF General Bartolomeo Roark. The defending forces on Wyatt consisted of the Wyatt Militia – a force that can muster barely four lances of 'Mechs – and the personal 'Mechs of House Roark, which were dispersed around the various Roark landholdings across the world. Stephan and his allies fought against the annexation, but were undercut by the Baroness, who aligned House Roark with the Commonwealth to preserve the family's position on Wyatt.[2]

Second Succession War[edit]

The unit received its nickname when having to recruit socialist workers when defending Odessa from Kuritans in 2846.[3]

Anton Marik's Revolt[edit]

During the chaos of Anton Marik's Revolt the Fourth Donegal took advantage of the situation. They attacked Nestor and the Fifth Orloff Grenadiers.[4]

Fourth Succession War[edit]

The unit was involved in an attacks on Harvest, Kirchbach and Liezen in the Fourth Succession War. On Harvest, they engaged Helmut's Hermits, and defeated the mercenary unit.[5] On Liezen the Fourth helped bolster the military operations performed by Winfield's Brigade, giving the Lyran forces on the planet enough numbers to secure the three major cities and force the Altenmarkt Militia to retreat off-world.[6]

After the war the unit raided the Capellan Confederation worlds of Homestead and Holloway from Velhas.[3]

FedCom Civil War[edit]

The Fourth, like the rest of the Donegal Guards, fought for Katherine Steiner-Davion. It was involved in battles on Sirdar and Taygeta.[7]

The unit took part in the attack on New Syrtis in 3065/66 during the FedCom Civil War. They were defeated and were the only invading unit that left the planet somehow intact. In the 16th May 3066, when the 4th Donegal Guards attacked New Saso and a battle ensued with the Vanguard Legion and the 8th Syrtis Fusiliers. The Vanguard Legion takes the command lance of the 4th Donegal Guards prisoner, not knowing who they are. They begin executing them, when members of the 8th Syrtis Fusiliers arrive. Grayson Addison challenges his former friend Colonel Chad Dean to a duel over this barbaric behavior. With his Templar he fights Dean's Hatamoto-Chi and defeats and wounds him. Major General Victor Amelio from the 4th Donegal Guards is so shocked by these events, that he declares the capitulation of the 4th Donegal Guards and the Ridgebrook CMM. The Davion Light Guards, present on planet, the 8th Syrtis Fusiliers and the Vanguard Legion each suffered approximately 50% losses. Of the invaders, only the 4th Donegal Guards leave New Syrtis as a unit.[8]

The Fourth surrendered to Duke Hasek on New Syrtis.[7]

As of 1st August 3067, the fourth was on New Syrtis and down to 10% strength.[9]

Jihad[edit]

During the Jihad the Fourth Donegal Guards were destroyed or captured by CCAF forces on New Syrtis.[10] The survivors of the Fourth were held in a Capellan POW camp until the end of the Jihad. Shortly after they were repatriated to the Lyran Commonwealth, the Fourth's survivors were quickly re-equipped into a new Light Combat Team. They faced Clan Jade Falcon forces on Yeguas, preventing that world from falling to the Falcons.[11] In 3085 they were the garrison for Yeguas.[12]

Dark Age[edit]

In 3127 a battalion of the Fourth raided Morges. They faced elements of the 12th Falcon Regulars. The raid didn't go well and the Fourth was forced to withdraw.[13]

The Fourth Donegal Guards were deployed into the Republic of the Sphere in 3136 in response to acts by the Stormhammers and other pro-Lyran forces. These worlds later came under Lyran control. The Fourth was assigned to garrison Turinge, and they frequently raided Chukchi III.[14]
