Description[edit]
The Daedalus is a Solaris VII BattleMech, which was developed from an original PXH-1 Phoenix Hawk[3] in the middle of the thirty-first century. Innovative Design Concepts took the original Phoenix Hawk design and updated it with several missile racks and the newly rediscovered large pulse laser, while utilizing speed to keep the design maneuvering out of tight situations.
Though it performed well during initial introduction, the design's edge over competition began to wane as newer technology was introduced, and as such Innovative Design Concepts revamped the Daedalus in the later 3060s. By 3067 the original Daedalus design had been only seen in use in Solaris' Reaches and poor game circuits, the newer version of the 'Mech has only been utilized by Blackstar Stables.[4]
Weapons and Equipment[edit]
Built on an endo steel frame and powered by a Hermes 270 XL engine, the Daedalus is a fast medium 'Mech able to reach top speeds of 97.2 km/h. This speed is enhanced further by Triple Strength Myomer, allowing the Daedalus to reach speeds of 118.8 km/s when properly heated up. Six Rawlings 45 jump jets further increase mobility, allowing the Daedalus to leap 180 meters in a single bound.
The Daedalus wields a heat intensive, all energy loadout. The main armament is a Tronel XIV-EXP large X-Pulse laser, backed up by four RAMTech 1500Z ER medium lasers and two Magna Mk IV ER small lasers, all tied to a targeting computer for superior accuracy. Heat is managed by 12 double heat sinks, which are barely able to manage the heat, but allows the 'Mech's TSM to be activated quickly.
Variants[edit]
- DAD-3C
- The original Daedalus carried a large pulse laser, machine gun, small laser, SRM-6, and a pair of SRM-4 missile launchers.[5]
- DAD-4A
- This variant removes the large X-Pulse laser and three ER medium lasers and replaces them with two Streak SRM-4 launchers and one Streak SRM-6 launcher. It also carries a supercharger-enhanced engine, but at the loss of one and a half tons of armor. BV (1.0) = ??, BV (2.0) = 1,466[6]
- DAD-4B
- This variant replaces the Streak SRM-4 launchers with medium pulse lasers and adds an additional double heat sink, plus an extra ton of armor, but loses the Triple Strength Myomer. BV (1.0) = ??, BV (2.0) = 1,431[7]
- DAD-DX
- This one-off prototype variant from 3097 used a 270-rated XXL engine and endo-composite structure. Armaments included a heavy PPC with a PPC capacitor, two small X-Pulse lasers, two medium X-Pulse lasers, an ER small laser, and two ER medium lasers. After a failed arena demonstration, the expensive project was scrapped. BV (2.0) = 1,606[8]
Design Quirks[edit]
The Daedalus is subject to the following Design Quirk:[9]
