Description

The Osprey is a Medium Class BattleMech, originally designed by the Hollis Incorporated for the SLDF. It was in competition with Blue Shot Weapons' Lynx] design for SLDF's contract bid. The design was produced and deployed by Star League as Medium weight Fire Support 'Mech, but only in limited numbers with the SLDF's Royal unit in a urban defense role. The Succession Wars had almost rendered the design completely extinct, with acceptation of 2 survivors. One appearing in 3020s with FedSuns mercenary outfit, which liberated from Star League Cache. The other, located in a museum which in 3070s, had the Word of Blake take ancient survivor and put the updated version of the design into production. The Blakist used the design as part of bolster its own militia forces, had Skobel MechWorks and later Achernar BattleMechs product newer design greater numbers.

During the final battle to take Achernar, large number Osprey's were used to repulse the Stone's Coalition force from taking the factory. Despite failing, the design impressed the Coalition allies, and was adopted into its ranks. Republic of the Sphere chose keep the design in production as their building up of their own armed forces.[2]

Armaments & Capacities

The Osprey's main ranged weapon is its M-7 Gauss Rifle, with Holly Multi-Missile Launcher 7 Rack mounted right torso with it. The weapons have been allotted 2 tons of ammunition each, spread out among the side torsos with CASE. The 'mech been given pair of Extended Range Medium and Light Lasers found in each of its stubby arms.

For its Urban Fighting role, the design been given Beagle Active Probe weed out hidden units. The Anderson Propulsion 25 Jump Jets help make up for the Osprey's slow speed.

Variants

  • OSP-15 - The original base model of the SLDF. The design featured same M-7 Gauss Rifle, but had a LRM 10 Launcher, three Medium Lasers and no special equipment.
  • OSP-15E - This modern version of the Osprey is based on Word of Blake's OSP-25 version built by Osprey's original manufacture, Hollis. It started to build this design late Jihad, using one of its Catapult production lines.
  • OSP-25 - This was original revived version of the Osprey that Word of Blake used prior to the OSP-26. This version updated 'Mech's standard medium lasers for Extended Range versions.[3]
