The Cyclone was designed as a counter to the Steiner Chippewa which had been such a problem for Marik forces in the First Succession War. Originally deployed along the Lyran border, by the thirty-first century it was also being seen along the Capellan front.[1]

Description[edit]

Slower than the Chippewa, the Cyclone carries better armor. The missile racks suit it to long-range bombardment while its other weaponry serves it well in close encounters. The fighters are used in a second-wave strike capability, bombarding enemy forces after an initial beachhead has been secured.

Designers chose a small power plant to allow more weapons and fuel to be mounted. Intended to be mechanically uncomplicated, its reliance on scarce electronics has limited production of new Cyclones.[1]

Weapons and Equipment[edit]

With twice the fuel of a normal fighter, the Cyclone excels in long-range battle. The fighter's armor is placed to provide nearly as much protection as any aerospace pilot can get. Numerous heat sinks allow the pilot to use nearly all the long-range or short-range weapons without overheating.

Weapons were chosen and placed to be as trouble-free as possible. An LRM-15 in each wing, with four tons of ammunition between them, provides its bombardment capabilities. For close combat an SRM-6 with two tons of ammo is carried in the nose. A total of nine medium lasers project firepower in all directions, three in the nose, two in each wing, and two in the tail.[1]

Variants[edit]

None mentioned.[1]

Canonicity[edit]

Stardate magazine is no longer considered a canonical source, making the Cyclone apocryphal.
