Dogfighter is a combat role performed by certain models of fighters, both aerospace and conventional, with a primary mission of air-to-air engagement with other similar airframes.[1][2]

Dogfighters are medium or heavy fighters mounting heavy energy-based firepower, with good heat dissipation. Pilots of these units prepare for extended combat engagements.[1][2]
