Sulla Prime aerospace fighter in the fire support unit role

Fire Support is a combat role performed by certain models of fighters, both aerospace and conventional, with a primary mission of support of air-to-air engagements from a stand-off distance. They may also perform heavy ground support missions.[1][2]

Description[edit]

Fire support craft are medium or heavy fighters performing distance-based support in aerial engagements, as they are equipped with long-range weapons. They have enough speed to maintain position with allied dogfighters en route to an engagement area and then provide fire support for their allies against the opposition. Because some of the heavy fighters that are built for the fire support role also are equipped with hardpoints, they may be tasked with dropping ordnance on ground targets for heavy support missions.[1][2]

Game Description: Alpha Strike[edit]

In Alpha Strike, a unit is identified as a Fire Support when it meets the following standards[1]:
Speed: Medium
Range: Long
Special: no requirements, but BOMB# specials provide an advantage in air-to-ground missions
