Wilhelm Archal was the commanding officer of the Third Canopian Fusiliers as of 3025.[1]

Major Archal, serving with the Third Canopian Fusiliers, was stationed on Marantha in 3025.[1]
Andurien Secession[edit]
On 9 November 3030, Archal and the Third Fusiliers invaded the Capellan world of Gunthar as part of the Andurien Secession, exepcting to bribe the defending Fifteenth Dracon Regiment into abandoning the planet. Instead, the Capellan mercenaries rebuked Archal's offer and launched a surprise attack on the Fusiliers' bridgehead and were only stopped from annihilating Archal's force by the heavy guns of the Fusiliers' DropShips. With the Canopians weakened, both sides settled into a war of raiding and counter-raiding, leaving Archal waiting for reinforcements as the year came to a close.[2]
3031 saw the stalemate on Gunthar continue, as Archal's troops refused to meet the Fifteenth Dracon in large-scale combat while the Fifteenth Dracon failed to bait the Third Fusiliers into meeting them in the open. Only two major engagements were fought between the two sides that year, with the first being a 7 April clash between a Dracon reconnaissance company and a Fusiliers armor force that saw six Capellan 'Mechs destroyed at the cost of twenty Canopian tanks. The second engagement, fought on 14 September, saw a Canopian raid against the fortress of Riedam succeed in destroying a large amount of Dracon resources at the cost of nearly a company of 'Mechs.[3]
The tide finally turned when word of major Capellan counterattacks on Drozan and Betelgeuse reached Gunthar, galvanizing both the Fusiliers and the Dracons into full assaults. While Archal's Fusiliers fought with bravery and determination, often while fighting stronger Dracon formations, they were unable to fully break the stalemate before recall orders arrived on 19 June 3032. Rather than allow their opponents to escape, the Fifteenth Dracon launched a surprise assault that captured two of Archal's DropShips and eliminated his chance of evacuating all of his forces from the planet. When efforts to recapture the vessels failed, Archal's men crammed every available space in their remaining transports with BattleMechs and vehicles before torching the company of tanks that remained. Finally, on 9 July, the Third Fusiliers' cramped DropShips left the Gunthar system, ceding the world to the Fifteenth Dracons.[4]
