The Ha Otoko is primarily a defensive, second-line BattleMech. Clan Diamond Shark first fielded the cheap 'Mech in 3060 when they helped Clan Nova Cat evacuate from Clan space. Clan Jade Falcon merchants were the first to point out that the Ha Otoko seems meant to be sold to the Inner Sphere, being easily modified to accommodate similar Inner Sphere weaponry, in addition to the Oriental styling of the 'Mech's exterior. The Ha Otoko is protected by thirteen tons of armor.

A missile boat, the Ha Otoko uses a pair of torso-mounted Type XX "Great Bow" LRM-20s and a pair of arm-mounted Type X "Short Bow" LRM-10 launchers. However, it only incorporates thirteen single heat sinks, so MechWarriors must carefully manage their heat. Many only fire the LRM-10s when enemies attempt to flank them.

HKO-1C - This is the Draconis Combine variant that Clan Jade Falcon merchants predicted would appear. This variant replaces the Clan weaponry with missile launchers of Inner Sphere manufacture. In order to account for the increased weight, this Ha Otoko variant makes use of an Extra-Light Engine and double heat sinks. BV (1.0) = 1,082
