Planet History[edit]
Valerius was a habitable world in the Periphery colonized by the Marian Hegemony in 3064. The world that became known as Valerius had been identified sometime earlier, but hadn't apparently offered much by way of valuable resources prior to 3063; what made Valerius more significant to Caesar Julius O'Reilly was its astrographical location. Caesar intended to invade and conquer the Circinus Federation, and the Federation border was only a short jump away from Valerius. Highly publicized reports from various survey missions to Valerius began appearing, prompting calls from the Marian Senate for the world to be colonized rapidly; Caesar O'Reilly responded by authorizing a massive colonization effort that described Valerius as a "bright jewel" and which saw colonists from across the Hegemony transported to Valerius via dozens of ships.[17]
As the colonization efforts were being conducted on Valerius the Marian Hegemony Armed Forces used military transports to construct a secret logistics and supply depot on the world, ready for the Caesar's planned invasion of the Federation. Despite the leaders of the Federation being aware that a Marian invasion was highly likely, the activity on Valerius went unnoticed, leaving the Federation apparently unprepared for the invasion launched in January 3066. The invasion was ultimately unsuccessful, but did capture the Federation worlds of Blantleff and Maximillian, leaving those two worlds and Valerius as the Marian prizes from their attempted conquest.[17]
